Music Whore

I guess that title got your attention. But I am, really. I love music. I believe it is manifested in my bones and through my soul but I wasn't given the talent to express it (God saved that for my bro) so I just listen and feel. I don't discriminate either. I love most everything. I fall just as easily for the strong beat of a rap song as i do for the strong lyrics of a country song. I love it all. Thats why when I was listening to the latest hits on xm last week, a particular song caught my attention and I have been thinking about it for a few days. The song is by fall out boy. I was attracted to their sound from their first hit, sugar- were goin down. They have a fun upbeat sound that made me increase my treadmill speed from a 6.0 to an 8.0. Good Stuff. So when I heard their new single on the radio, I was quick to listen. It sounded great but the lyrics disturbed me. As I was mulling them over this week, I thought. It is such a representation of how the world views life...its the American way...the pleasure principle of the ID as described by Freud.."I want it and I want it now." It is the way the Lost and the Fallen live..and it breaks my heart because it contradicts everything that Jesus did and everything He stands for.
The Lyrics read like this:

I’m gonna make you bend and break
(it sent you to me without wings)
Say a prayer, but let the good times roll
In case God doesn’t show
(let the good times roll, let the good times roll)
And I want these words to make things right
But it’s the wrongs that make the words come to life
Who does he think he is?
If that’s the worst you’ve got, better put your fingers back to the keys

"Let the Good times roll, in case God doesn't show"- What? The bible is clear that God is going to show and at that time He is going to judge the living and the dead.

(Matt 26:64)Yes, it is as you say," Jesus replied. "But I say to all of you: In the future you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven.

It breaks me that so many live without this hope- that all there is; is the here and the now- so lets make it good. Man, do they have a wake up call coming.
Paul writes with such urgency in the new testament about Christs coming. He writes as if it could happen any minute. When answering the churchs questions..he's more or less like,(Lindsay paraphrase) "look people, if your married then stay married and if your not then don't worry about..treat each other with respect, get ready, love each other..Jesus is coming." I can just imagine them with their houses in order and proverbial bags packed! They were ready and they had hope...They wern't about to let the good times roll in case God didn't show. We have a hope that execceds everything. We don't have to be wrapped up in our "stuff" or our "circumstances" because we are in a little blip of eternity that is leading us to heaven... (Not, that I in any way want to minimilize anyones suffering in any form, (I have seen enough in my own life) But the bible does teach us that what we experience here is temporary in comparison to the eternal glory that will be revealed to us).

We are urged in Thessolonians to "May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ."

Jesus is coming, we can be sure of that, to reunite with His church. We don't have to be stuck in the world worried that God might not show!
