My active labor with Roman was 7 hours long.Pretty short for a first pregnancy i am told...I was in denial most of the day and didn't want to be the woman that cried labor. On a Sunday evening November 28th 2006 , Andrew and I went to eat at TJI Fridays. We then walked around and did some window shopping. I kept telling Andrew I was feeling these "pains" so he would ask me to tell him when they would come and would start timing them.. We went home when they started to knock me over and were three minutes apart. he called the hospital while I went to do my makeup and hair.He came up stairs to tell me we needed to go. We checked in to east cooper around 11pm. I waited until the last time possible to get an epidural and after that we both watched a movie and fell asleep. The nurses woke me up to tell me I was at 10cm and could start pushing. I pushed for 30 minutes and out came little Roman. A little before 6am. I remember thinking "that was it?" I could definaltey do THAT again!
As far as what we would do diffrently: We hope to be more assertive and involved this time as far as we know what we want and don't want. We are also going to have more visitors when we get home rather than in the hospital this time. With Roman I didn't know how it would be and we were on staff at church and at times there were so many people in the room..I am sure some of you remember! that the nurses couldn't even get in...besides stressing me out..I felt like I couldn't get the help and assistance I needed through my stay there..and the hospital staff would get pretty irritated too!
SO..I want to know..whats your labor story? What was good? what was bad? did you choose induction or a c- section? Did you go into labor naturally? Did you do anything crazy to try and induce labor on your own? What would you do differently? And if you havn't given birth- what have you heard?
Happy Mother Day!

We already talked about my deal...1 emergancy section 1 repeat section. Just keep that baby with you, nurse every time he opens his sweet little eyes, hold him close, and enjoy your vacation at the East Cooper getaway! Sooo excited for you!!!
Oh yeah, we tried EVERYTHING to make Thomas come out, to no avail..they'll come when they are ready...
you made me just gasp outloud! I saw LABOR and thought Jude was here. I don't have any labor stories. Amelia was a planned c-section, but I did go into labor early, east cooper doctors stopped the labor with drugs for a few days until the c-section. Not much to report on the pain b/c gooood drugs ;)
I hope this birth goes like yours and not like my first. 2 weeks overdue...finally induced...went into hyperstimulus uterus contractions (???) for 6 hours (this is where you have intense contractions but no 'rest' period between them.) They then gave me a 'reverse' drug to stop the contractions. After 33 hours of labor I started pushing...my uterus gave out...3 hours of pushing without help from my uterus...Thomas was FINALLY born...Oh-and I didn't have an epidural until 27 hours after I was induced. But honestly, looking back on it all...it wasn't a big deal. I never cried, never screamed but I did tell the nurse that the IV hurt like Hell :) I laughed through the majority of it and enjoyed cutting up with the staff. They felt bad for me. Let's pray Ellison Anne's arrival is less eventful! Oh..and Ellison is going to be just fine :)
With Noah, my water broke(at 3am), but I had to be induced because I wasn't dilated hardly any. Finally, I was dilated enough and MAYBE 5 pushes later (a little before 6pm) he was born :)
With Kendall, I opted to be induced. When I checked into the hospital at 8am, I was already dilated between 4 and 5 cm(so she would've been born that day anyway!). We watched tv and read magazines for a few hours. I took a little nap and then it was time! Again, it only took a few pushes before Kendall was born (about 1:30pm)! Of course, I had an epidural with both! After Kendall was born, they forgot to turn off my epidural! So, at 9:30pm that night when I still couldn't feel my legs I started to freak out thinking I got paralyzed! Everything was fine after they emptied my bladder...I just couldn't feel that I needed to go pee!
Hmm...You know how crazy mine was. They chose to induce because of high blood pressure, but had to use Cervadil to soften my cervix. That didn't work, because all I did was have contractions every two minutes for six hours with no results. They finally stopped the Cervadil at 5am and opted to go with another option--the dreaded enema. Say what you will about it, after 5 minutes my water broke! They tried the epidural, but because of my scoliosis (sp), it only took on my left side. So after three hours of labor and thirty minutes of pushing, I was SCREAMING to get Emma out! It's a good thing I don't remember that pain, though. Otherwise, I don't think I'd be doing this again!
I am laughing at Rebekah's post...so funny!
My labor was HORRIBLE with Reyse, 25 hours of nonstop contractions, 2 1/2 hrs of pushing...only to find out that my pelvic bone doesn't open, so a c-section was the next option.
With Abigail, scheduled c-section, arrived at 5am, she was born aprox 6:45. Awesome delivery!!
Good luck!
You really got me with that one! I thought you had your Jude!
With my twins, the docs won't let you go past your 38th week so we did a planned C. I was begging them to let me have a few more days or weeks with them inside! I wasnt' dialated or effaced at all. We got to the hospital at like 6 a.m. and they were delivered at 9:34 and 9:35 that morning! We were laughing and crying for joy -- there's very little drama with a planned C. My husband almost didn't make it thru -- the nurses were fanning him and brining him juice. Ha!
The second time around, I wanted the room empty! It was so much better. I have done c-section, natural and had two inductions even though I waited it out as long as possible. I would say avoid a c-section as much as possible...if anything, for the sake of those abs! ;)
do you have a fri update? How was your appointment today? Thinking of you all...I remember my last few days before West..soo many emotions..
